VSpec
VSpec is a high performance software
that provides sophisticated spectroscopy capabilities for professional
researchers, including full control of popular spectrometers and
detectors, and exceptional support for displaying and managing spectral
data. Added to this is all the capability of the Digital Optics
high-performance imaging architecture.
Standard and Professional
Versions
VSpec is a powerful dedicated spectroscopy
package with extensive hardware support, based on the V++ system
architecture. VSpec Pro combines the full set of V++ imaging features
with the spectroscopy features of VSpec, making a sophisticated
package for the researcher who wants everything. Both versions are
equipped with the powerful VPascal language
for automating your experiments, including functions for automated
spectrometer and camera control.
Spectrum Display
VSpec allows you to display and
process as many spectra as you wish using its versatile spectrum
display windows. Spectra may consist of one or more strips, and
may have multiple frames so you can process a time-series of spectral
measurements. Every spectrum window has its own calibration settings.
Spectroscopy and Imaging
Functions
VSpec and VSpec Pro incorporate
many functions for processing both spectral and image data. Please
see the V++ pages for details about the many hundreds of available
functions.
Spectral Corrections
Corrections such as reference subtraction,
flat field, software accumulation, derivative, absorbance, and transmission
can be applied during live data collection or post processing.

Spectrometer
Control
VSpec includes a sophisticated architecture
for controlling spectrometers, cameras, and other detectors. You
can access all hardware features (and even control multiple instruments
simultaneously) but the interface always remains easy to understand
and use.
Many popular spectrometers are supported,
for example DeltaNu and Acton monochromators and imaging spectrographs,
including control of filter wheels, shutters, diverter mirrors,
and motorized slits. Please contact us
regarding support for other spectrometer brands.
Single Point Detectors, such as
Acton PMTs, are fully supported, with features such as strip chart
display, chopper control, and the ability to control multiple detectors
simultaneously.
Calibration
Extensive calibration functionality
is provided, with both manual and automatic modes. Manual wavelength
calibration includes automatic peak finding for fixed position spectrograph
/ camera systems or scanning monochromator / PMT spectral acquisition
systems. Automatic calibration uses the spectrograph specifications
and grating dispersion equation (adapted for a spectrograph to calculate
wavelengths for adjustable spectrometer or CCD systems). Both methods
allow calibration of input and output in wavelength (nm, micron,
Angstroms) and energy (wavenumber, relative wavenumber and electron
volts).
Camera Support
All VSpec versions include complete
support for a wide variety of scientific CCD cameras, including
products from Intevac, Princeton Insturments and Photometrics. Features
include live focus, single & multiple strips/region exposures,
multiple camera control, and sequence acquisition.
RCubed
VSpec was developed in association
with our partner company, RCubed Software.
